PyramidCam Pyramids FAQ PyramidCam Statement of Purpose
Pyramidcam was started to allow those who will never be able to afford the cost or the time to visit the Pyramids, the opportunity to see them live in all their glory on our site. In this day and age of very high housing and education costs, most people are overburdened with mortage payments, credit card debt, and school loan repayments and are left with little disposible income or time to venture very far from home .However, everybody has the Internet and can make virtual visits as often as they like for no cost whatsoever via PyramidCam.com. |
Two Points of Light (April 6th) - An alert viewer spotted these two points of light at 07:48:56. Go here for the full view and here for a partial zoom.
White Blob - On April 3rd, we recorded this sequence of images that shows a 'white blob' bouncing aournd Khafre and Khufu between about 3 and 4 pm local time. The only explanation we can come up with is that it was a reflection off of something below and near the camera, or off of something lying flat on a roof of one of the buildings below us. Go here for the movie.
We are using the latest compression ratios, so you may have to upgrade Real Player or Qucktime to watch it - Version 7.0.4 of QuickTime plays it.
Unidentified Reflective Objects in two frames at the Pyramids
This image captured on Mar 23, 2006 at 14:34:04 shows an object near the tip of Khafre that is highly reflective and exhibits structure. It is difficult to determine, however, if it exists on the image in the foreground, or is positioned at or behind the pyramid. Although the center portion looks round in this image, the image captured at 14:33:17 (47 seconds earlier) is squarish in shape.

Notice that at the right of Khufu in the same image there appears to be one of our local crows in flight. That image is very typical of the many bird captures we get, but the object in the center of the frame is not, and is something else.
Possibilities that come to mind: balloon, plane, kite, insect..
It is not typical of the insects we capture that float around the camera at close range. We have never identified a plane or a helicopter in any picture, although we know that jets occasionally approach the airport from the SW and over fly the Pyramids - but at a much higher altitude than our object here.
It is not a lens flare, either, as the sun is overhead and is completely blocked by the camera's retractable sun shielding hood.

Many of you have called my attention to the object to the right, which I dismissed as a bird or bug. Upon further inspection, it looks like something quite different.

Our money is still on a bug, near the camera, but our bugs have dark non-reflective bodies with transparent wings.
